Born in a small town by the Mediterranean sea in Spain, Belén works at the intersection of communication, design & research.
Belén is currently the Narrative Strategy Director at the New Economy Coalition, a coalition of 100+ organizations building the Solidarity Economy in the U.S.
She has worked for international organizations and community-based initiatives in places such as Guatemala, Ecuador, rural Appalachia, and Perú in a range of issues including gender equality and youth empowerment. Throughout her projects, she’s experienced firsthand the extraordinary potential of popular education and alternative media as tools for self-discovery and critical thinking. In love with creative methodologies, her passion grew from experimenting in handing over control of the camera to rural youth from Southern Ecuador, and from facilitating participatory video and storytelling workshops to young people.
She’s the former lead designer and communications specialist at The People’s Forum, a movement incubator aimed to nurture the next generation of visionaries and organizers in New York City, and internationally.
She is collaborating with La Laboratoria, a transnational feminist research platform, and is part of the Feminist Research on Violence Platform, a New York-based group of women lead by feminist writer Silvia Federici that focuses on feminist research and analysis centered on violence against women and the new forms of capital accumulation.
